 While growing up in Dohar, Kanak Aditya formed a deep connection to the Padma river and its vastness which greatly reflects in his songwriting and compositions. He is one of the founding members of Joler Gaan and has been the vocalist of the band since its beginning. Apart from being a singer-songwriter, Kanak is also well known for being a painter, a theater activist, a designer, a passionate cyclist and an avid traveller.
Just like Kanak’s paintings, singing was also a medium for expressing his anima and emotions. As a child he took inspiration from his grandfather who used to make his own musical instruments. He grew up listening to his grandfather singing and performing while playing his own handmade dotara, a young Kanak was truly mesmerized by his grandfather's artistry. During Kanak's university days he would sing unsung songs that he had collected from different parts of Bangladesh and songs that he heard his grandfather and his uncles sing.
