From watching baul ustads perform on stage to performing with them on the same stage, Md Masum Miah's musical journey is nothing short of spectacular. Masum was introduced to the magical world of music as a child when his father used to carry him on his shoulders to attend concerts of local folk artists. Masum was particularly drawn to the sound and rhythm of the dhol which in later years would become the first instrument that he'd learn.

Masum initially learned to play dhol from his father but he mastered the instrument from the teachings of his guru, Noyon Miah. Apart from dhol, he also plays tabla, which he learned from Gautam Sarkar and Biswajit, dholak, cajon and many other percussive instruments. Masum is renowned as a maestro dhol player in the Bangladeshi music community and he has played with most of the biggest folk artists in the country.
